Parents are encouraged to get involved in the Scouting experience with their children, to the extent governed by their individual circumstances. This could take very little time or effort on the one hand, to becoming a passionate interest on the other. Parents can best do this by:

  • assisting as a parent helper to the leaders, with games and activities on a meeting night, or attending an occasional camp or outing with their kids and assisting there;

  • help out on the Group Committee, meeting once a month and help to make decisions affecting the welfare of the Sections;

  • volunteering when help is needed to conduct occasional fundraising activities or with our community service events such as Red Cross collecting;

  • become a fully uniformed leader or assistant. It's great fun and a very rewarding experience but could take some commitment.

There are fee discounts to helpers, Committee people, and leaders.

JOINING

  • after attending a section for a couple of weeks to see if Scouting is your thing,

  • fill in the attached blue M1 Form,

  • attach a cheque for the appropriate amount made out to "3rd CROYDON SCOUT GROUP",

  • return both to the Treasurer

    Mr. D. Fraser
    5 Hollyoak Haven,
    Chirnside Park, 3116.

A receipt will be issued. Once the fee is received the new member is covered by the Scout Association insurance and can now enjoy the activities of their Section to the full.

Uniforms should be obtained within a few weeks of joining. They can be purchased at:

Snowgum
523 Whitehorse Rd.,
Mitcham.
Ph. 9873-5061

There may be some secondhand uniforms available within the Group. Call Whilma Hewlett on 9725-0605. Old uniforms can also be recycled through Whilma.

OTHER INFORMATION

Scouting families may consider hiring the hall for family functions. This is available at a very reasonable cost. Call a Group committee person if interested.

Can you help us publicize 3rd Croydon? Our Joey Section especially needs new members. Publicity pamphlets are available for distribution to friends and prospective new members in your local area.

The leaders may request you to assist from time to time with transporting, helping at activities, fund raising and so on. Please volunteer generously with help if you can, for besides making the leaders job so much easier you will also set a great example to your kids in community involvement and will most likely have a fabulous time yourself. Remember that Scouting is an entirely voluntary organisation, and our leaders do a great job of delivering an interesting program each week.

Thanking you very much,

3rd Croydon Scout Group
