[Back to Main Survivor Page]

The camp is based on the hit reality TV show - 'SURVIVOR'. The camp is open for a limited number of Scouts and Guides from all over Victoria.

We only allow 1 or 2 members from each group to participate and in doing so every participant is guaranteed to make new friends. You can register to be a part of the next Survivor-Camp by following the link at the bottom of this page.

The camp runs for approximately 4 or 5 nights and has been held at Clifford Park Scout Activity Park in Wonga Park (in Eastern Melbourne) for the past two years. The camp cost is approximately $80 which covers all camp fees and food for 5-6 days as well as extras such as a team bandana and any prizes that we couldn't get donated.

The participants start off the camp by being split into two tribes. It is in these tribes that participants will compete in a range of different challenges including relays, construction, puzzles, quizzes and endurance challenges. The challenges will be under one of two categories - Reward or Immunity. In Reward Challenges tribes compete against each other to win luxury food items or camp equipment. In Immunity Challenges tribes compete to gain Immunity which means there tribe is immune from Tribal Council.

The losing tribe of Immunity Challenges must go to Tribal Council where they will vote off one member of their tribe. This continues until the tribes merge and then compete against each other for personal immunity. One by one the tribe becomes smaller until there are 2 people left and a winner is announced (format may change slightly from year to year).

The overall winner of the camp receives a trophy as well as a spot on the perpetual "3CV Survivor Shield". The runner-up also receives a trophy and both winner and runner up also receive a prize.

As well as the major prizes, there are also many other opportunities to win personal prizes during the camp, such as CD vouchers, confectionery and small cash prizes.

This years prizes included a Hike tent worth $150 for the major prize, $25 in 5c pieces for the runner up and a $25 music gift voucher and assorted cash prizes (5c bags) for some of the personal prizes. Everyone also went home with their own team bandanna and a show bag including fun size chocolate bars, vouchers for Hungry Jacks and McDonalds, a CD containing photos taken over the duration of the camp and a badge that we reckon you could put on your uniform (if everyone did then you would be able to recognise fellow competitors from other years!).

This year 3rd Croydon Venturers would like to thank the following people for thier contributions and donations for the 2002 survivor-camp:

  • Snowgum - for partially donating the tent for the major prize and for showbags and badges
  • Mars confectionery - for 2 boxes of fun size chocolate bars.
  • Hungry Jacks - for food vouchers
  • McDonalds - for food vouchers
  • Bandanas
    • Flash Images for the screen printing gear and use of their facilities,
    • Leonie Dove for the sewing and
    • Glen Hawksworth for the labour printing them
  • and Lisa's mum for the wonderful lasagna we Venturers had for dinner while the scouts and guides were surviving on their rations, thanks Mum!

Thank you all for your wonderful support and we hope it can continue in the future.

Quotes from Past Competitors and Organisers

SUZANNE:
From Friday 27th September to Wednesday 2nd October I participated in a Survivor Camp. It was a copy of the TV show Survivor. Only two Guides or Scouts from each unit were able to attend and you can only ever do it once.
It was a great opportunity to meet lots of Guides and Scouts. The camp was being run by the 3rd Croydon Venturers.
The six days were fun packed and full of excitement. One of my favourite challenges was "Challenge Valley", which was an obstacle course with a lot of different challenges and a lot of mud. It was a lot of fun, but my favourite day was Tuesday the 1st of October. In the morning we had a water fight where we were drenched by a hose then we had flour thrown at us. It was a lot of fun. After lunch, once we were showered we had the best activity of the whole camp. We got a partner and a plate full of chocolate, strawberry and caramel topping, and we painted each other's face and hair with it. Once we were painted we had to find a marshmallow that was hidden in a bucket of flour without using our hands, we were caked. Then we had to eat a plate of jelly without using our hands, it was good fun. I also enjoyed standing on a pole for four and a half hours.
It is probably the best camp I have ever been on. I had a great time.

RHONDA:
Never in my life have I made so many friends, Never in my life have I had so much fun in a couple of days. From the challenges to the company to the dodgy showers and the falling down tents have I ever enjoyed my self so much. My favourite challenge when I went in 2001 was when we had to make up songs. Our songs were soooooo COOL! If I ever have another chance to go I would definitely take it. I strongly recommend the opportunity of attending any of the 3CV survivor camps in the future I strongly suggest that u take it up, go along and be guaranteed a good time.
C ya at the next Survivor Camp! RHONDA
BEC:
I went on the 2002 survivor camp and it was pretty fun and my favourite thing would have had 2 have been voting people out because it didn't use much brain power and overall it was good and I really liked the standing on poles challenge - that was awesome!

TREVOR:
From an organisers point of view survivor was totally, absolutely undoubtable fun. It is just so different from all the other scouting activities that are around. A piece of advice to everyone is that you should go. Go for the fun and because it is just so different. Make new friends and starve, i mean have fun at the same time.

LISA:
Survivor was awesome! All the kids had a great time and was awesome getting to know them and being a scout of a day, thanks for voting me off first guys =P - Lisa

My favourite part of the camp would have to be winning $10 for standing on the pole for 4 hours.
I liked the whole lot, the tribal council was good and the food wasn't that bad (apart from cat food, I would of liked some meat though.
all the challenges were good and the people were cool. James is cool.
It was great meeting all the people and I'll try and get down next year to help out.
JAMES:
Although it takes a lot of time to organise - it is worth it because the camp is SO much fun. The challenges are awesome - especially standing on the poles! And all the guides and scouts had heaps of fun. Thanks to all the other venturers who helped out and a HUGE thankyou to glen - our venturer leader - especially for making those AWESOME bandanas! The camp is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I recommend that everyone comes! I look forward to our 2003 camp and hope to see lots of u there!

JOCELYN:
Survivor camp was run during the school holidays by 3rd Croydon Venturers at Clifford Park. It was like the TV show "Survivor" and you did challenges for food rewards and immunity. The camp was fun. I made lots of friends. We did lots of little challenges like standing on a post for four hours and riding a bike blindfolded. I came third overall.
SCOTTY:
I liked the camp becuase it was really fun, you get to become so good friends with the people that you camp with it's almost like you've been together for years. My favourite challenge was the one where we got covered in icecream toppings, flour and jelly.
